About the Children's Hospital of Fudan University
The Children’s Hospital of Fudan University, a budget management unit under the National Health Commission, is a comprehensive tertiary pediatric hospital that combines medical care, teaching, research, prevention, and management. Founded in 1952, the hospital heads the National Key Discipline of Pediatrics under the Ministry of Education. It is one of the first pediatric departments in China to offer MD and PhD programs and postdoctoral training programs.
Awards, Accreditations, and Recognitions
The hospital has been ranked first in pediatrics and second in pediatric surgery by the China Best Specialty by Hospital Management Institute of Fudan University for 10 consecutive years. The hospital has also excelled in the rankings of pediatrics according to the Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM) issued by the Chinese Academy of Medical Science, China Best Clinical Specialty, Peking University. In 2017, the hospital was approved as the National Children’s Medical Center and re-accredited by the 6th version of the Joint Commission International (JCI) criteria as the top academic medical center in Asia.

Our Capacity
At present, the hospital has 50 clinical departments and divisions: seven National Key Clinical Specialties including Neonatology, Pediatric Emergency and Critical Medicine, Pediatric Gastroenterology, Pediatric Traditional Chinese Medicine, Laboratory for Neonatal Diseases, Pediatric Surgery, and Clinical Nursing; two Provincial Key Laboratories including the Ministry of Health Key Laboratory for Neonatal Diseases and the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Birth Defects; and one National level Project Office, which is the Neonatal Congenital Heart Disease Project Office.
Research and Education
In the past 10 years, 570 research projects have been granted by government agencies like the National Natural Science Foundation, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Science and Technology, with the total amount of funding being approximately 390,000,000 RMB. Over 1000 papers have been published in international journals like The Lancet, Nature, Pediatrics, Journal of Pediatrics, and Pediatric Research. The School of Pediatrics, Shanghai Medical College, Fudan University runs teaching and training programs for more than 1000 medical students each year in clinical medicine (5- and 8-years programs), preventive medicine, public health, and other specialties. The postgraduate training program is open to residents, fellows, and visiting scholars from all over the China.
Global Engagement
The hospital has now maintained a close connection with 26 international medical centers for pediatrics and more than 78 medical centers at home. Around 250 international guests come to visit each year. The hospital has held many international pediatric conferences, such as the Children’s Hospital International Executive Forum, the Pacific Conference of Pediatric Surgery, the International Congress of Pediatric Nephrology, the Asia Pacific Regional IMFAR, the Shanghai Neonatal Forum and Symposium on Pediatric Cardiovascular Disease, and others.
