To meet the requirements for health care work in the new era, strengthen international exchange and cooperation in the medical field, and promote the high-quality development of pediatric healthcare services, a delegation from the Pirogov National Medical and Surgical Centre of Russia visited the Children's Hospital of Fudan University on 30 October 2025 for an exchange and collaboration visit. The meeting was held in the multi-purpose hall in the hospital, where both parties engaged in in-depth dialogue on medical technology, specialties development, scientific research innovation, and other areas.
At beginning of the meeting, Dr. WANG Yi, President of Children's Hospital of Fudan University, delivered a welcome speech, extending the hospital's warmest greetings to the delegation. Dr. Wang emphasized the long-standing history of exchanges between China and Russia in the field of healthcare. She noted that this visit has built and important bridge for communication and cooperation between the two institutions. The hospital will take this opportunity to actively share pediatric diagnosis and treatment experience while learning from Russia's advanced technologies and management models, and work together to promote the development of global children’s health.
Subsequently, Professor Oleg Eduardovich Karpov, Director of the Pirogov National Medical and Surgical Centre, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, and Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, delivered a speech. He expressed his gratitude to the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University for its thoughtful arrangements and warm hospitality. He also introduced the delegation members and provided an overview of the Pirogov National Medical and Surgical Centre. Professor Karpov expressed a strong desire to deepening bilateral cooperation between the two institutions and jointly advance medical progress.
During the hospital introduction session, President Wang Yi and Professor Oleg Karpov each gave detailed presentations on their respective institutions, covering topics such as their development history, discipline layout, specialized clinical programs, research translation achievements, and talent training systems. These introductions provided both sides with a more comprehensive understanding of each other’s medical strengths and developmental focuses.
In the discussion session, participants from both institutions engaged in in-depth exchanges on key topics including challenges in pediatric clinical diagnosis and treatment, multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaboration mechanisms, critical care for severely ill children, and joint scientific research projects. Representatives from the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University — including Chief International Operations Officer David Men, Director of the International Medical Department Zhang Mingzhi, Director of the Department of Neurology Yu Lifei, and Director of the Department of Neurosurgery Li Hao — actively interacted with members of the Russian delegation. They shared practical experiences and exchanged professional insights in an atmosphere that was both warm and productive, laying a solid foundation for future cooperation.
Following the meeting, the delegation, accompanied by hospital leadership and relevant department heads, visited key departments and facilities including the MDT Consultation Centre, International Medical Services Department, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and research wards. The delegation highly praised the hospital's advanced medical equipment, standardized diagnostic and treatment processes, patient-centered service philosophy, and the professionalism of its medical staff. They noted that the hospital's practical experience in pediatric healthcare holds significant reference value.
This international exchange event marks a important initiative by Children's Hospital of Fudan University to implement its philosophy of open collaboration and enhance its global medical influence. Moving forward, the hospital will continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with leading medical institutions both domestically and internationally. It will continuously advance medical technology innovation, disciplinary development upgrades, and talent cultivation, thereby making greater contributions to safeguarding children's health and propelling the high-quality development of pediatric medicine in China.
