1. Overview
The Department of Respiratory Medicine at the Children's Hospital of Fudan University is a national-level pediatric respiratory disease center integrating medical care, teaching, research, and prevention. For decades, the department has been committed to the diagnosis, treatment, management, and rehabilitation of a wide range of respiratory conditions in children and adolescents—spanning from common respiratory infections to rare, complex, and critical disorders.
Established in 1978 through the pioneering efforts of senior professors including Sun Huiqin, Lin Ci, Li Hongren, Wu Fengbao, and Zhang Ling'en, the department is now led by a team of distinguished professors and chief physicians. It comprises 41 specialist physicians, including 6 chief physicians, 8 associate chief physicians, and 21 attending physicians, supported by a specialized nursing team. Among them are 2 doctoral advisors, 4 master’s advisors, 19 holders of doctoral degrees, and 19 master’s degree holders. Recognized as a National Model Unit for Standardized Development in Pediatric Respiratory Medicine and a National Health Commission Talent Exchange Service Center Partner for Pediatric Respiratory Endoscopy Physician Training, the department has been awarded numerous national and provincial/ministerial-level scientific and technological progress awards. It actively undertakes major national research projects and is widely regarded as a national leader in academic influence.
Guided by a patient-centered philosophy and leveraging the hospital’s comprehensive platform, the department pioneered multidisciplinary teams for complex pediatric respiratory diseases. It offers cutting-edge therapies, including phage therapy, clinical trials, and biologics such as omalizumab, ensuring alignment with international best practices to deliver personalized, precision treatment plans for every child.
