1.Overview
The Department of Pediatric Urology at the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University is a nationally recognized leading center for the diagnosis and treatment of complex congenital genitourinary disorders in children. As an integral part of the National Children‘s Medical Center, the department has a rich history dating back to 1958, officially establishing itself as an independent specialty in 1978 and a full department in 2011 .
We serve as a major referral center for complex urological cases from across the country. Our mission is to provide comprehensive, family-centered care ranging from common conditions to the most complex surgical reconstructions. The department is renowned for its expertise in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) on urinary tract disorder, complex genitourinary tract reconstruction, and multidisciplinary management of conditions like disorders of sex development (DSD) and neurogenic bladder .
2. Clinical Expertise & Treatment Areas
Our team excels in the full spectrum of pediatric urology, with distinct sub-specialization in (including but not limited to those listed below):
• Prenatal and Postnatal Management of Congenital Anomalies: Including hydronephrosis, duplicated kidneys, and ureteral abnormalities as vesicoureteral reflux, congenital urethral obstructions.
• Minimally Invasive & Robotic Surgery: Pioneering techniques in pyeloplasty, ureteral reimplantation, and heminephrectomy.
• Complex Genitourinary Reconstruction: Specializing in all types of hypospadias, epispadias, bladder exstrophy.
• Disorders of Sex Development (DSD): A holistic, multidisciplinary approach involving endocrinology, psychology, and genetics to deal with various conditions of ambiguous genitalia and differences in sex development .
• Urinary Stone Disease: Comprehensive metabolic evaluation and mini-invasive surgical management (PCNL, RIRS, ureteroscope) .
• Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction: Multidisciplinary care for neurogenic bladder and voiding dysfunction . Posterior Urethral Valves; Incontinence and other voiding disorder.
• Genitourinary Oncology: Wilms Tumor (Nephroblastoma); Rhabdomyosarcoma (Bladder/Prostate); Testicular Tumors .

• We perform over 5,000 surgeries annually, with a significant portion of Grade IV surgery, ranging from routine case p to complex reconstructions .

• Inpatient Unit: 64 regular beds for in-patients and more than 10 beds in international ward.
• Outpatient Volume: Opens daily, provides over 30,000 outpatient visits annually .
• Specialized Equipment: 4th Generation Da Vinci Xi Robot system, advanced 3mm HD laparoscopic systems, All types of urethral/cystoscope/ureteroscope, laser lithotripters, urodynamics system, and biofeedback therapy devices.
