1.Overview
At the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University, our Nephrology and Kidney Transplant Department cares for infants, children, and adolescents with all types of kidney conditions – both those present from birth and those that develop later. Since starting in 1954, we have become one the largest and most renowned children’s kidney centers in China, helping families from across the country. We are honored to be recognized as an International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA) Training Center, a National Clinical Key Specialty, and the leading team of the Pediatric Nephrology Group under China’s National Center for Healthcare Quality Management in Nephrology. We also serve as the National Children's Dialysis Center and a nationally approved pediatric kidney transplantation center, lead the National Children's Medical Center Nephrology Alliance and host the Shanghai Research Center for Renal Development and Pediatric Kidney Diseases. Our expert team includes 18 kidney specialists, 13 of whom hold doctorates - among them are 4 senior chief physicians (two are also professors), 5 associate senior chief physicians, 2 doctoral advisors, and 1 master's advisor. Committed to excellence in both clinical care and research, our work has been honored with awards such as the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award (2014), the Soong Ching Ling Pediatric Medicine Award (2015), and the Shanghai Medical Science and Technology First Prize (2021, led by Dr. Xu Hong, who also serves as President of the Asian Pediatric Nephrology Association). We are dedicated to improving children’s kidney health through outstanding medical service, innovative research, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
2. Test and Procedures
We specialize in caring for children with all types of kidney conditions and are recognized for successfully treating complex cases referred from across China, with our reputation and impact continuing to grow both nationally and throughout Asia. Our team provides advanced, personalized care in key areas including genetic testing and tailored treatments for inherited kidney diseases, modern therapies for immune-related kidney conditions, and lifelong support for children with advanced kidney disease—having provided ongoing care for more than 500 children on dialysis and over 500 children who have received kidney transplants. As the world’s largest pediatric kidney failure treatment center and China’s leading children’s kidney transplant program, we guide families through every stage from pre-transplant evaluation through surgery and long-term follow-up. Our kidney specialists collaborate closely with experts from other fields to develop individualized treatment plans, and we offer accessible care through seven-day-a-week services including specialist consultations, transplant check-ups, and multidisciplinary clinics for conditions such as chronic kidney disease, inherited kidney disorders, difficult-to-treat bedwetting, and rare diseases like Fabry disease and atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome.
