1. Overview
The Department of Radiology was founded in 1960 under the leadership of Dr. Qian Zijing. Distinguished early pioneers included Prof. Yao Qinghua, Prof. Wang Kangan, and Prof. Liu Aiqin. Professor Yao Qinghua served as Director from 1978 onward. Prof. Yao served as Director from 1978, she established the Pediatric Radiology Group of the Chinese Society of Radiology in 1989. followed by Prof. Pamir (1998–2012) and Prof. Qiao Zhongwei (2013-). As a training base for master’s and doctoral programs in Imaging Medicine and Nuclear Medicine at Fudan University, the department has graduated numerous postgraduates and hosts dozens of visiting clinicians for advanced training annually. The department has a 69-member multidisciplinary team (26 radiologists, 34 technologists, 6 nurses, 3 administrative/support staff), including 11 Chief Physician, 1 PhD supervisor, 2 master’s supervisors and 8 doctoral-degree holders. It boasts six well-structured subspecialty groups: Head and Neck, Cardiothoracic, Abdominal, Musculoskeletal, Neonatal and Interventional Radiology. Equipped with 21 advanced medical imaging devices, it includes 4 MRI scanners (the first 5.0T MRI dedicated to a pediatric hospital in China), 3 spiral CT scanners (1 spectral CT, 1 wide-detector CT), 5 X-ray machines, 2 digital gastrointestinal fluoroscopy systems (DRF) and 7 mobile bedside X-ray machines.
2. Test and Procedures
The Department of Radiology offers comprehensive diagnostic services, including X-ray, CT, and MRI, with specialized pediatric imaging such as X-ray bone age assessment, full-length spine and lower extremity X-ray, air enema reduction for intussusception (AER), barium enema (BE), Micturating Cystourethrography (MCU), low-dose CT, neonatal MRI, epilepsy MRI, cardiac MRI, cerebrospinal fluid flow MRI, 4D contrast-enhanced MR angiography (4D_CEMRA), and 3D non-contrast MR angiography (3D_NCE MRA).
